History of The Growing Place
The Growing Place opened in September of 1988 as a GS-110 center with 35 children in 5 classroom and 7 teachers. By the following year both enrollment and staff had doubled. Over the year the center’s operation has been overseen by children’s minister, Janet Smith (who also served as director) and the First Baptist Child Care Committee.
By June 1997 The Growing Place was able to hire a fulltime director, Katherine Davis,
· In April 2000 the center receive an A license
· In August 2001 the center received a 3 star rating
· In October 2003 the center received a 4 star rating
· In December 2006 the center received a 5 star rating
The Growing Place now has 5 preschool classrooms with 68 preschoolers, 2 school-age classrooms with 39 school-age children and a total of 22 staff members.
We continue maintain our 5 star rating and meet heath, state and education requirements.
In 2007 we began landscaping and developing our outdoor courtyard for the children. We now have a beautiful Outdoor Learning Environment for the Infants, Toddlers, and Two year olds.
Our 2011 plans are to redesign our larger outdoor play space to become an Outdoor Learning Environment for the
